A: ​​I've always dreamed of returning to the sports world professionally, and having the opportunity to work in this field from an investment and innovation standpoint exceeds all expectations. The team and culture at LEAD are genuinely entrepreneurial and visionary, making it an exciting and inspiring place to be.

Q: Can you take us through what a day in your life looks like at LEAD?

A: My core focus is working with our Invest Team, where I lead investor relations and serve as the main line of communication between LEAD and our investors. This role allows me to make a significant impact across industries. I structure my day around these priorities, ensuring that I maintain strong connections with all stakeholders. Throughout the day, I participate in brainstorming sessions, meet with key individuals, and research the latest trends in sports and health to stay informed and ahead of the curve.

Q: What excites you about being a part of a company improving lives in sports and health?

A: The most exciting part is seeing how these two fields intersect with technology, which leads us to a promising future for these sectors. Sports not only connects us to our bodies but also to our communities, and this aspect is crucial. Technology enhances these connections and creates new possibilities, making this field so exciting to be a part of. It's a future full of potential and possibilities that I'm thrilled to be a part of.

Q: What is the most impactful thing you do to maintain your health and well-being?

A: Exercise is key! I maintain peak physical health by working out, playing soccer, and skiing. I also focus on nutrition and emphasize a healthy lifestyle overall. Practicing mindfulness and ensuring I eat nutritious foods that fuel my body and mind effectively are also essential parts of my routine.

Having gone from Wall Street's soaring skyscrapers to being a core element of our operation, Thomas Rudy's extensive career in the investment world is wide-spanning. His financial acumen is undeniable, with experience in investment banking, hedge funds, private equity, and venture capital.

Q: What are the biggest opportunities and challenges you see coming in sports and health tech in the next 5-10 years?A:

 Often, the biggest opportunities will also pose the biggest challenges. We see AI as a significant driver of sub-verticals within health tech. However, those advances need to be reined in by proper regulation that balances innovation with ethics and high standards, which, given the velocity of AI innovation, poses a substantial challenge. We also anticipate sports and health to continue merging into what we call the "medical consumer." You will see applications on the performance side as well as on the regulated health side.

Q: What is essential to consider when building a strong and successful investment portfolio?

Portfolio construction is important for building a solid portfolio and track record. We believe in balancing the portfolio between companies that can exit faster (i.e., through acquisition) at valuations of $100 million or less with the fitting target returns and in less than 4-5 years to have some smaller but quicker wins. The rest of the portfolio should focus on companies with substantial addressable markets and the ability to reach valuations of $1 billion or more (unicorn status), which takes more, such as 5 to 7 years, but can significantly enhance returns. A portfolio with only small exits or moonshot companies will not create the desired outcomes.

 Every day in the life of the LEAD Chief Investment Officer looks different. I travel a lot to spend time with many of our outstanding investors and shareholders. Given that most of our investors have had tremendously successful careers, I learned a lot from them regarding strategies and got great insights into deal flow. In addition, I spend a lot of time with my investment team to evaluate deal flow, discuss due diligence findings, make investment decisions in investment committee meetings, and ideate new funding vehicles to grow our family of funds. Lastly, significant time is spent with our portfolio companies, both virtually and in person, to understand how we can help and drive value. Of course, fundraising plays a role in this business at all times, on top of that.

First of all, I am a huge sports fan and care deeply about advancements in health. So combining both passions is a dream come true. Combine that with working with a world-class team and a highly diverse set of entrepreneurs and investors, and you can quickly see how every day is different, fun, and challenging at all times. This is not for the faint of heart, but the best job if you're willing to work hard with a "whatever it takes" mentality. It also does not hurt that we often combine our work with unique sporting events.

 Regular exercise. In my opinion, a fit body also promotes a fit mind. Given that I often work 100+ hours per week, travel 40 weeks of the year, and deal with high-stress situations every day, I need to stay healthy to be focused and have the energy to do my job. The more I exercise, the healthier I am and the less sick I get. It's the absolute key to success in my world.

From his early days in professional sports to working backstage at massive concerts, Ray Kelly has seen many corners of the world and honed his wellness regimen every step of the way. Through years of working with some of entertainment’s leading acts and instilling knowledge to better their mental and physical state, his passion for wellness led him to found

After spending years in professional sports, Ray went on to work with some of the world's most famous musicians and entertainers, ultimately developing a signature method and take on holistic healing, leading him to work on the global stage as a practitioner in Europe, the U.K., and the U.S. "The real aha moment started to happen when I moved out of pro sports, and I started moving into the music industry," says Kelly. "I was working and touring with a lot of just incredible musicians and bands, and I started to see things that didn't make sense."

After spending two decades managing health, injury, and performance at the highest caliber, , he realized just how critical mental health and stress levels are to every human's physical state, asserting, "Until we alter someone's state of stress, only then can we start to open up bigger conversations about healing." This new-age ideology formed the foundation for the founding of TERSA, among several stand-out scenarios that Kelly experienced first-hand.

These stepping stones harken back to his days in the music industry; in particular, Kelly recalls "working with a musician backstage before a show when they clearly have a bulging disc in their back, in tears for moments before their show. And for some reason, once they put that guitar on their shoulder and they start playing the music, they're doing a two-hour set." Though his client's pain was evident, it didn't stop them from taking the stage, and there is a science behind it. "The power of being on stage with these 20-foot subs and amplifiers and speakers, when notes and frequencies and vibrations were hitting certain chords and notes, it had the unique ability to talk to your nervous system through the lens of sound, frequency, and vibration."

Applying these teachings to his years of experience, Kelly began creating something more significant than a signature methodology. Q: In your experience, what makes for a successful founder?

 First, resilience; the ability to recover and bounce back from difficult circumstances is key. Next is grit, as it shows the courage, resolve, and strength of character required to navigate and thrive in a challenging environment. Lastly, self-awareness is essential because knowing oneself and honing the ability to surround oneself with team members who can amplify strengths and fill in the gaps in weaknesses make all the difference.

My day always starts with some kind of movement, as my days are significantly better and more productive when I prioritize moving my body. As for the workday, it’s cliche, but there are never two days that are the same. Being embedded within our startups is incredibly dynamic. 

The workday starts with a catchup on emails and industry news, followed by virtual stand-up meetings with various startup teams to align priorities. The days can be filled with team alignments, brainstorming content, and campaign ideas, executing marketing initiatives, partner discussions, strategy sessions, data analysis, and KPI tracking.

It’s really about finding the balance between proactive planning, curiosity and exploration, insight-driven implementation, and reacting to discoveries or opportunities. Flexibility and adaptability are paramount. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities, requiring strategic thinking and creative problem-solving.

 It’s meaningful work. I'm driven to make a more significant impact on humanity and am consumed with helping people. At LEAD, I can play a small part in doing both. Working with portfolio companies means having a positive impact on the millions of people our companies serve.

Across our network, I can connect with like-minded colleagues, operators, and industry professionals who share a similar passion. I can put my energy into topics and brands that are committed to bettering human experiences - be it through the sports we’re playing or consuming or the quality of life we’re living - and can do so alongside teams that are equally as passionate and energized by the work we're collectively doing.  Prioritizing movement and nutrition are the cornerstones of my health regimen. So, every day, I get outside and move! I prioritize physical activity in some form, whether a gym session, yoga, a morning surf, or a simple walk at the end of the day. 

Also, I’m a foodie passionate about fueling my body with seasonal, local, and clean foods. I believe in the power of clean eating and how it can positively affect my energy levels, mood, and overall health. Cooking and exploring new recipes using fresh, wholesome ingredients is both a hobby and a commitment to my well-being.
